  • Tehran-Baku ties to keep growing in next Iranian president’s term: Minister

Iran’s economy minister assured the Republic of Azerbaijan that the cooperation between the two neighbors will continue to expand during the tenure of the next Iranian President, Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, who has won the June 18 election by a landslide.

According to Tasnim news agency, in a meeting with Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Tehran on Sunday, Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Farhad Dejpasand gave an assurance that Iran will keep boosting cooperation with Azerbaijan during the next Iranian administration’s term.

Hailing the remarkable growth in the bilateral and regional cooperation between Tehran and Baku during the tenure of outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Dejpasand pointed to the many agreements and projects the two neighbors have finalized in recent years.

The economy minister also stressed the importance of reconstruction of the Azeri territories liberated after the most recent clashes in the Karabakh region, saying Iran is prepared to take part in the process of reconstruction of those areas.

In January, Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan signed an agreement at the conclusion of a meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation in Tehran, focusing economic interaction on joint investment plans and construction projects in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Dejpassand had said the agreement will be focused on how the two neighboring countries would be able to expedite joint projects while introducing mechanisms that could lead to a finalization of future cooperation plans.
