Russian Parliament calls for condemnation of U.S. military presence in the Caribbean
Pars Today — On Monday, the Russian Parliament (Duma), while condemning the U.S. military presence off the coast of Venezuela, called on parliaments around the world to denounce this provocative and peace-threatening action in Latin America.
In a strong statement reflecting the deepening geopolitical rift between Moscow and Washington, the Russian Federation Parliament condemned the provocative U.S. military presence near Venezuela’s territorial waters. In the statement, issued by the Duma’s Committee on International Affairs, the military operations of the Donald Trump administration—carried out under the guise of a “war on drug trafficking”—were firmly rejected, with a warning that these actions dangerously escalate tensions in the region. The document calls on the parliaments of United Nations member states and international organizations to condemn the increased U.S. military presence near Venezuela’s territorial waters.
The statement emphasizes that Washington’s provocative and aggressive actions are inconsistent with the principles of the United Nations Charter, violate Venezuela’s sovereignty, and set a dangerous precedent for regional stability. Russian lawmakers also urged Washington to “refrain from any further military escalation” and to return to a path of dialogue and cooperation in accordance with international law.
