Advancing Iran’s position in the field of cell therapy worldwide / Self-sufficiency in insulin within 2 years

Pars Today – The Secretary of Iran’s Biotechnology, Health, and Medical Technologies Headquarters announced the improvement of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s rank in the field of cell therapy worldwide.

Despite sanctions from Western countries, especially in recent years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has managed to achieve remarkable medical advancements, similar to other fields. According to Pars Today, quoting Tasnim News Agency, “Mostafa Ghanei,” Secretary of the Biotechnology, Health, and Medical Technologies Headquarters of Iran, said: Until last year, Iran had only one cell therapy product on the market and ranked twelfth in the world, but this year, with the production of five products in this field, it has risen to eighth place.

Ghanei stated: To reduce foreign currency dependency and strengthen the national economy, we are seriously pursuing two major domestic production projects for insulin and plasma in Iran. With the completion of infrastructure and domestic production lines, we predict that within the next two years, there will be no need to import these products.

He also emphasized that Iran is striving to be among the top five countries in the world in the field of stem cells in the near future.

Ghanei, highlighting the importance of developing indigenous technologies, spoke about Iran’s status in biotechnological medicines: “Currently, we are unrivaled in this field in the region and hold the fifth rank in Asia.”

According to him, even under the harshest sanctions, Iran has not faced shortages of biological medicines, which is a clear indication of Iran’s domestic capability in this area.
