Araghchi: World moving down dangerous lawlessness path/ Iran defender of rules-based order

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi
Pars Today – Iran’s foreign minister, warning against the “power-based order” supported by the United States, emphasized that international law is being eroded and that Iran will stand firm against any aggression based on its right to legitimate self-defense.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, speaking on Sunday at the international conference “International Law Under Assault, Aggression, and Self-Defense” in Tehran, said that the fundamental principles of international law are under pressure from attacks by major powers. He stated that the world is passing through a sensitive phase in which war and violence, rather than peace and coexistence, are becoming the norm in international relations.
According to Pars Today, Iran’s top diplomat, referring to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, added that the post–World War II order was expected to receive greater attention, but some revisionist powers, through unilateral approaches, have undermined its foundations.
Araghchi, criticizing recent U.S. policies, stated that what the United States calls a “rules-based order” is in reality defined by the fleeting interests of Western powers — and that today Washington has even moved beyond that claim, advancing a “power-based order.” He said this trend, in practice, represents a return to the law of the jungle.
The Iranian foreign minister also pointed to the sharp increase in global military budgets, saying that this situation is the direct result of militaristic policies that have intensified arms races and exposed global security to new threats.
Araghchi also emphasized, regarding developments in the West Asia region, that the Israeli regime’s attack on Iran — carried out with direct U.S. support — was not only a blatant violation of international law but also targeted the negotiation process itself.
The Iranian foreign minister said that the Israeli regime, relying on Western backing, continues its aggression and violations of humanitarian principles, and that it guarantees the security of no country in the region.
Araghchi added that Iran’s response to the aggressor was entirely based on the right to legitimate self-defense and in full accordance with international principles. He stressed that the Iranian nation seeks peace but will stand firm against any aggression until the end.
The head of Iran’s foreign policy apparatus emphasized that today the world faces a choice between the discourse of force and the discourse of law, and that the Islamic Republic of Iran will pursue the path of returning to a rules-based order while strengthening regional and global cooperation.
