Pars Today – During the second stage of the 2026 Ice Climbing World Cup, Iranian athletes claimed first and second place on the podium.
According to Pars Today, the competition was held in Saas-Fee, Switzerland, and featured the world’s top ice climbers competing in the speed category.
At the conclusion of the event, Mohammadreza Safdarian of Iran delivered a dominant performance to take first place and the gold medal, while his compatriot Mohsen Beheshti advanced to the final and secured second place, winning the silver medal. In the women’s category, Maheen Khalili ranked tenth in the world.
Earlier in the season, at the first stage of the 2026 Ice Climbing World Cup in South Korea, Safdarian and Beheshti had also finished in first and second place, respectively.
Australia defeated by Iran’s “cheetahs” again
In other sports news, during the 22nd Asian Men’s Handball Championship 2026 hosted in Kuwait, the Iranian men’s national handball team faced Australia for the second time in the tournament and secured another victory. According to Pars Today, the Iranian team, which had already defeated Australia 39–13 in the group stage, won the rematch 37–17.
The Iranian team is scheduled to play China on Sunday, 5 Bahman, at 17:30 local time. In the first round of the championship, Iran was placed in a group with Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Australia, and by finishing third in the group, the team continues its campaign in the tournament.
