Pars Today — The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in an interview with CNN, provided explanations regarding the latest developments related to the recent events in Iran.

According to Pars Today, the Office of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in line with policies of transparency and accountability, released a statement publishing the list of those who lost their lives in the recent events. Based on this statement, the total number of fatalities was announced as 3,117, of which the information for 2,986 individuals was released after verification with official bodies. The discrepancy in the figures is attributed to cases involving unidentified individuals or inconsistencies in documentation.

List of the names of those killed in recent events

In this regard, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, told the CNN Türk reporter: “I must state clearly that a distinction must be made between protesters and those who resort to terrorist and sabotage actions. From December 28, 2025, to January 8, 2026, we witnessed rational protests over economic conditions or the exchange rate. These protests were acceptable, and even Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, engaged in dialogue with them on certain issues.”

Araghchi added: “From January 8 to January 10, over a three-day period, the nature of the situation changed. During that time, terrorists entered into armed clashes, attacked Iran’s security forces, and at times even targeted ordinary citizens. They exploited Trump’s message to the Iranian people in order to increase the number of casualties and to gain Trump’s full support.”

The Iranian foreign minister stated: “I can say that the number of those killed, according to official authorities, is 3,100, and of these, 2,000 are considered ‘martyrs,’ as the majority were security forces. In accordance with our laws, measures will be taken to support the families of the martyrs, and the names will be announced by official bodies.”

In response to a question about claims by some Western media regarding the number of fatalities in Iran’s recent events, Araghchi said: “Hitler has a well-known theory: ‘Tell a lie big enough and it will be easily believed.’ Unfortunately, the bigger the lie, the more effective it becomes. Sometimes they claim that ‘30,000 to 50,000 people have been killed,’ all of which is false. The number of those killed, according to official announcements, is 3,117. If they want to add even a single person to the list, let them come forward and present it.”
