Pars Today – In a note marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH), a descendant of the Prophet of Islam, Iran’s ambassador to the Vatican described him as the architect of an intellectual movement aimed at rebuilding the scientific authority of Islam during an era of political, epistemological, and identity crises.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Iran’s Ambassador to the Vatican, Mohammad Hossein Mokhtari wrote that the martyrdom of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH) is not only a reminder of the loss of one of the Shia Imams, but also an opportunity to reconsider one of the most important periods in the history of Islamic thought.

He added that during a time when the Islamic world faced widespread political, intellectual, and identity crises, Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH) established a major project to rebuild the scientific and intellectual authority of Islam.

Iran’s Ambassador to the Vatican, Mohammad Hossein Mokhtari added that Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH) was in fact the architect of an intellectual movement that, during one of the most critical periods of Islamic civilization, succeeded in rebuilding the foundations of religious understanding and preventing intellectual deviation. He said this intellectual model remains inspiring for the contemporary world.

Mokhtari noted that Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH), at a time when the Islamic society faced political and intellectual turmoil, sought solutions in strengthening religious rationality, educating elites, promoting scholarly dialogue, returning methodically to the Quran, and building epistemic institutions.

He added that this model is still inspiring today for the Islamic world and even for human societies, especially in an era when identity crises, extremism, superficial religiosity, and epistemic distrust have become serious challenges. From this perspective, he said, Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH) is not only a historical figure but also a living model for rebuilding scientific and moral authority in the modern world.
