Pars Today – The Deputy Head of Iran’s National Carpet Center announced the international registration of 10 new regions of Iranian handmade carpets.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, Mohammad Veysian, Deputy Head of the National Carpet Center of Iran, said that in recent years the center has pursued the registration of geographical indications for handmade carpets with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). With the registration of new regions, the number of registered areas has reached 45 across 23 provinces, making Iran a key hub of carpet production. In addition, 48 carpet regions have also been registered at the national level.
Explaining the latest export status of Iranian handmade carpets, Veysian added that based on 10-month customs statistics of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2025, carpet exports reached about $30.4 million with a total weight of 1,737 tons.
He noted that this figure remains far below the true potential of Iran’s carpet industry. Despite existing challenges, Iranian handmade carpets are currently exported to 61 countries worldwide.
