2026 FIFA World Cup: Iran held to 1-1 draw by Egypt

Pars Today – Iran and Egypt played to a 1-1 draw in their Group G match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News Agency, the Group G encounter kicked off at 6:30 a.m. Tehran time on Saturday at Lumen Field in Seattle, United States, with Szymon Marciniak of Poland officiating. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Egypt took the lead in the 4th minute when Mahmoud Saber scored from the team's first serious attack on Iran's goal.

Iran equalized in the 14th minute. Milad Mohammadi's powerful shot was initially saved by Mohamed El Shenawy, but Ramin Rezaeian converted the rebound from a tight angle to level the score.

At the end of the Group G matches, Belgium finished first with 5 points and a +3 goal difference, while Egypt secured second place with 5 points and a +2 goal difference, with both teams advancing to the knockout stage. Iran, with 3 points and a zero goal difference, must now await the conclusion of the remaining group-stage matches to learn whether it will advance.

Rezaeian, who scored Iran's only goal, was named Player of the Match. It was his second such honor of the tournament, having also received the award in Iran's match against New Zealand.

With his goal against Egypt, Rezaeian also became Iran's all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history.
