Qalibaf: We are seriously pursuing an end to war in Lebanon / Berri: Enemy is targeting Lebanon's sovereignty

Pars Today – Iran's Parliament Speaker said that ending the war in Lebanon and guaranteeing the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity constitute a key part of the first article of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, made the remarks during a telephone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart. He stressed that one of the most important issues discussed during last week's talks in Switzerland was ending the war in Lebanon and safeguarding the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Qalibaf said that this issue forms a central part of the first article of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. He added that, following the Iranian negotiating delegation's strong objections to the violations of this article during the Switzerland talks, it was agreed to establish a Conflict Monitoring Unit involving Iran, the United States, and Lebanon to oversee the implementation of the agreement's provisions related to Lebanon.

Qalibaf stressed: "Our goal is to bring the war in Lebanon to an end, ensure the return of displaced people to their homes, end the occupation, and secure the withdrawal of the Israeli regime from Lebanese territory. We are pursuing these objectives with determination."

Berri: The Israeli regime is trying to undermine Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity

During the conversation, Nabih Berri thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian negotiating delegation for their positions, saying: "What you pursued in Switzerland serves the interests of the Lebanese people. However, the Israeli regime is attempting to circumvent the restoration of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity within the framework of the Islamabad memorandum through other means."

The Lebanese parliament speaker also referred to the Washington agreement between Lebanon and the Israeli regime, describing it as "a conspiracy and a source of sedition."

At the end of the telephone conversation, both sides emphasized the need to convene the Conflict Monitoring Unit as soon as possible to oversee efforts aimed at controlling and ending the war in Lebanon.
