New BRICS scientific competition; Iran to cooperate with five countries on flagship projects

Pars Today – By participating in the international call for Flagship projects, the National Science Foundation of Iran is providing an opportunity for Iranian scientists to collaborate with scientists from five BRICS member countries in three strategic areas of science and technology.

According to Pars Today, citing Mehr News Agency, Mohammadreza Hormozinejad, head of the National Science Foundation of Iran (INSF), highlighted the importance of the BRICS Science and Technology program, saying that the foundation, in cooperation with the BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Framework, one of the major initiatives of the bloc, is taking part in the international Flagship call.

The program aims to support three research and development projects — one in each field — that are considered strategically important on a global scale.

The head of the National Science Foundation of Iran said that under this call, projects must be submitted in one of three areas: Digital Earth, Psycho-molecular Tools, and the BRICS Intelligent Telescope and Data Network.

The head of the National Science Foundation of Iran further added: “Projects submitted under this call must be interdisciplinary in nature and led by leading scientists from member countries. The ultimate goal is to create integration across the value chain and provide technological solutions with long-term growth potential.”

This major international collaboration is being carried out with the participation and support of reputable scientific organizations in Brazil, China, Egypt, Iran, Russia, and South Africa.

According to the head of the National Science Foundation of Iran, the submitted proposals should utilize these international capacities to promote scientific synergy, develop shared infrastructures, and pursue research and technological objectives whose realization ensures the common interests of member countries.
