A lasting farewell: Millions bid final farewell to Iran’s martyred Leader in historic Qom funeral procession

Pars Today – The grand funeral procession for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution concluded moments ago on Tuesday, with millions of people taking part in the ceremony from the Holy Jamkaran Mosque to the vicinity of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Fatima Masumeh (peace be upon her) in the city of Qom.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, from the early hours of Tuesday morning, the seven-kilometer route between the Holy Jamkaran Mosque and the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Fatima Masumeh was filled from beginning to end with crowds who had gathered to bid their final farewell to the martyred Leader of the Revolution.

The procession began at around 8:00 a.m. The vehicle carrying the body of the martyred Leader and his martyred family members moved slowly and in an orderly manner through the vast crowds of mourners. The procession was repeatedly accompanied by waves of emotion, tears from participants, and chants including "Labbaik Ya Khamenei"and "This army has come, out of love for the Leader."

People from Iran’s most distant cities and villages traveled to Qom overnight to take part in the historic farewell ceremony. Some spent hours on the road for the chance to be present for only a few moments—a presence that, for many, represented a tribute to years of leadership, struggle, and steadfastness by the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

Among the vast crowds, different Iranian ethnic groups stood side by side, including Turks, Lurs, Baluch, Kurds, Arabs, and Turkmen, many wearing traditional clothing. Non-Iranian seminary students from various countries also attended the ceremony carrying their national flags. Their widespread participation reflected that the mourning was not limited to Iran’s borders, with religious seminaries and supporters of the Islamic Revolution in different countries sharing a profound loss.

One of the remarkable aspects of the ceremony was the large presence of teenagers and young people from the generations born in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. Many from this generation, who grew up hearing the words and guidance of the martyred Leader, stood shoulder to shoulder with the early generations of the Revolution, portraying a continuation of its path and ideals.

Along the procession route, red "Ya Latharat al-Husayn" flags displayed a message of anger and calls for retribution, echoing the message of seeking justice for martyrs and continuing their path. Images of the martyred Leader of the Revolution and Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei were also seen in the hands of participants, adding to the solemnity and spiritual atmosphere of the ceremony.

Today, Qom was not merely the host of a funeral procession; the city became a scene of devotion, loyalty, and national solidarity, as millions of people took part in another historic chapter in the legacy of the Islamic Revolution. The farewell ceremony is expected to remain a lasting memory in Iran’s historical record.

The body of the martyred Leader was also carried in a funeral procession in Tehran on Monday, attended by millions of mourners. The ceremony in the holy city of Qom took place on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Further funeral ceremonies are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, in the cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq, and on Thursday, July 9, in Mashhad, where the burial will take place at the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (peace be upon him).
