Iranian Foreign Ministry: U.S. aggressive attacks clear violation of Article One of MoU

Pars Today – Iran's Foreign Ministry has issued a statement condemning U.S. attacks on parts of Iran, calling them a flagrant violation of Article One of the Memorandum of Understanding on ending the war, which stipulates the cessation of military operations.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News, Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday:

"In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the terrorist U.S. military carried out military aggression against several monitoring and surveillance facilities on Iran's southern coast, in clear violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter. These aggressive attacks also constitute a blatant breach of Article One of the Memorandum of Understanding on ending the war, which requires the cessation of military operations."

The statement added:

"The continuation of these unlawful attacks against Iran, together with the U.S. Treasury's decision on Tuesday night to revoke Iran's oil export authorization—which, according to the statement, the United States had committed to under Article 10 of the Memorandum of Understanding—the violation of the agreed arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, and the continued military attacks and the terrorist actions by the Israeli regime against Lebanon, have rendered key and fundamental provisions of the war-ending agreement ineffective. Responsibility for the dangerous consequences of this escalation rests with the United States, which has violated its commitments."

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also stressed the international legal obligation of all states—particularly the countries on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf—to prevent the parties it identifies as aggressors from using their territory or facilities to carry out hostile actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. The statement added that any cooperation in the act of aggression against Iran would amount to complicity and participation in that crime.

The ministry strongly condemned repeated U.S. acts of aggression and breaches of its commitments. Recalling the responsibilities of the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary-General for maintaining regional and international peace and security, it stated that Iran's armed forces, as they have repeatedly demonstrated, would not hesitate to defend the country's territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and national security against U.S. military aggression, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, and would also target what it described as the source and origin of any aggression.
