More than 10 million people attended funeral ceremonies for martyred leader in Iraq

Pars Today — The Supreme Committee responsible for organizing the funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq announced that, according to preliminary figures, more than 10 million people took part in the funeral processions in Najaf and Karbala.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, the committee overseeing the planning and organization of the funeral ceremonies for the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei in Iraq announced on Thursday that preliminary estimates indicate that more than 10 million people attended the funeral of the martyred religious authority in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala.

Ehsan Yassin al-Awadi, head of the committee and director of the Iraqi prime minister’s office, said in a statement that the Islamic world and global public opinion followed the funeral ceremonies of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala with sorrow and grief.

He added that, regarding the preparations for the ceremony, the Supreme Committee, from the first hours after receiving its assignment, held intensive meetings with officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran, local governments, the holy shrines of Imam Ali, Imam Hussein, and Abbas (pbut), the Joint Operations Command, security and service institutions, and other relevant bodies, carrying out comprehensive planning for the event.

Al-Awadi emphasized that despite the millions of people who gathered in Najaf and Karbala, the planned arrangements were successfully implemented, and the ceremony concluded with complete order and smooth coordination, without any reported significant security incidents or accidents. He said this success was the result of extensive coordination among various institutions, public cooperation, and the efforts of executive and security forces.

He also expressed his appreciation to all official institutions, the holy shrines, security and military forces — especially the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) — medical and service personnel, Hussaini service caravans (Mawkibs), thousands of volunteers, and the Iraqi people for their participation in organizing the ceremony.
