Iravani: U.S. aggression against Iran a clear violation of Article 2(4) of U.N. Charter

Pars Today — Following the latest U.S. military strikes on Iran, which targeted civilian infrastructure and resulted in the deaths of a number of Iranians, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations sent a letter to the U.N. Security Council and the secretary-general.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, wrote in his letter on Friday to the U.N. secretary-general and the rotating president of the Security Council that the U.S. attacks on Iran constitute “a clear violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter, the fundamental principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the prohibition on the threat or use of force.”

He added that the repeated targeting of civilian property and infrastructure—particularly vital transportation and railway networks—amounts to a war crime.

Iravani stressed that the United States bears full international responsibility for the loss of life, injuries, destruction of infrastructure, environmental damage, and all other consequences arising from its internationally unlawful actions.

The Iranian ambassador further stated that the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates that the continued commission of these unlawful military attacks poses “a serious and imminent threat to international peace and security, freedom of navigation, regional stability, and the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.”

Iravani also called on the Security Council to immediately fulfill its primary responsibility under the U.N. Charter to maintain international peace and security, take urgent and effective measures to end U.S. aggression, and ensure accountability for all serious violations committed by the United States.
