Pars Today – The spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry said the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) condemned the U.S. military aggression against Iran in the final statement issued at the Meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, said on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting that the final communiqué, issued in Kyrgyzstan, covered a broad range of issues.

He said the statement reaffirmed respect for the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and international law, addressed counterterrorism, extremism, and separatism, and emphasized cooperation among SCO member states in the fields of economics, trade, technology, and science.

He stressed that the most significant aspect of the statement was the SCO's condemnation of the military aggression against Iran.

"Particularly under the current circumstances, this position reflects both the concern of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and its key member states over developments in West Asia, and the determination of the international community to condemn such actions," Baghaei said.

Highlighting the importance of the SCO for Iran, Baghaei noted that Iran has been one of the organization's 10 member states since 2023. He added that the bloc includes major countries such as China and Russia, both permanent members of the UN Security Council, as well as key regional powers including India, Pakistan, and the Central Asian states.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman further said that, alongside organizations such as BRICS, the SCO can help fill the gap created by the weakening of some international institutions, particularly certain bodies affiliated with the United Nations.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Foreign Ministers met on Thursday and Friday in Kyrgyzstan, concluding its session with the issuance of a joint statement and the signing of several documents.
