Iran among world's top 10 countries for UNESCO World Heritage sites

Pars Today – Iran's Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage said that Iran now ranks among the world's top 10 countries for UNESCO World Heritage inscriptions, following the addition of Alamut Castle and its associated fortifications as the country's 30th UNESCO World Heritage site.

According to Pars Today, Ali Darabi, Deputy Minister and Deputy for Cultural Heritage, congratulated the Iranian people on the inscription of Alamut Castle and its associated fortifications. He said the nomination was approved by consensus and without objection during the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in Busan, South Korea, with the participation of Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri.

Darabi described Alamut Castle as a unique example of Iranian heritage in the fields of architecture, science and knowledge, governance, and defensive systems, adding that it once housed a vast library containing approximately 400,000 volumes.

He noted that with the inscription of Alamut Castle as Iran's 30th UNESCO World Heritage property, the country has joined the world's top 10 nations in terms of the number of UNESCO-listed cultural heritage sites.

Located in the Alamut region of Qazvin Province, Alamut Castle is regarded as one of the most outstanding examples of military and strategic architecture in Iranian history. The historic fortress stands about 105 kilometers from the city of Qazvin, northeast of the village of Gazor Khan.
