Iranian international affairs expert: No change has occurred in Iran’s strategy regarding Strait of Hormuz

Pars Today – An Iranian senior international affairs expert said that despite consultations and the approaching conclusion of arrangements for vessel transit between Iran and Oman, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategies regarding the Strait of Hormuz have not changed.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Seyyed Reza Sadr al-Hosseini said on Wednesday night during Iran’s television special news program, in reference to Iran-Oman negotiations and the possibility of resolving disputes over the Strait of Hormuz, that around 60 years ago Iran and Oman reached an agreement on the passage of various vessels through the area, and that throughout this period, the Strait had not faced any serious problems in terms of the international economy.

He added that the United States, at the current stage, has created challenges for the international economy and regional countries through actions including the war against Iran.

Sadr al-Hosseini said that during this period, the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on its own considerations and arrangements, has completely closed the passage, and that under Iran’s framework of arrangements, maritime traffic is being carried out with restrictions.

He added that one of the main points of the agreement is to prevent enemies, especially the Israeli regime, from allowing any vessels to pass through this waterway, and that any vessel posing a threat to Iran’s security will not be permitted to enter or exit.

Sadr al-Hosseini said that despite U.S. media pressure, negotiations and engagement with Oman are continuing, and that Oman, due to its good-neighborly relations with Iran, has cooperated in this process.

Regarding reports and media claims from the United States, the Iranian international affairs expert said that what is being discussed today in U.S. media is part of the realities of their policymaking. However, he emphasized that Iran has the upper hand on the ground and that the measures taken have led to the halting or limiting of U.S. scenarios.

Sadr al-Hosseini also said that “no change” has occurred in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategies regarding the Strait of Hormuz, adding that this is evident in the behavior of the United States as well as Iran’s actions and preparedness on the ground. He further stated that Iran’s armed forces have the full capability to protect the Strait of Hormuz.
