Iranian and Russian presidents in Kyrgyzstan: Tehran-Moscow relations go beyond ordinary ties

Pars Today — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that relations between Iran and Russia are not ordinary ties, but rather strategic relations based on shared interests and mutual concerns.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan. Referring to the excellent level of relations between Iran and Russia and the positive progress in implementing their joint agreements, Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Russian government and people to the Islamic Republic of Iran at various times, including during the war and under the conditions resulting from U.S. sanctions.

The Iranian president said Russia’s positions at the United Nations and other international forums demonstrate the distinctive nature of relations between Tehran and Moscow. He stated: “This support shows that relations between the two countries are not ordinary ties, but strategic relations based on shared interests and mutual concerns.”

Pezeshkian described the holding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit as a sign of a growing determination among countries around the world to counter unilateralism. He added that other countries also no longer accept the international system being governed on the basis of unilateralism, stressing that no country has the right to violate another country’s sovereignty or impose its objectives on others through the use of force.

The Iranian president, emphasizing the depth and sincerity of relations between Tehran and Moscow, said: “The interactions between Iran and Russia have been sincere and deep, and relations between the two countries have improved in all areas and will develop further in the future.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, paid tribute to the memory of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution and his role in advancing the strategic partnership between Iran and Russia, emphasizing Moscow’s determination to continue and deepen bilateral cooperation.

Putin said that the United States and the Israeli regime had failed to achieve their objectives during their aggression against Iran, describing the unity and resistance of the Iranian people as among the main factors behind the failure of those objectives.

The Russian president added that Moscow had repeatedly warned the United States and Israel that a military solution against Iran had no prospect of success. He stressed: “Iran is a country with a rich and deeply rooted civilization and culture, and today they are coming to understand this reality.”

Putin emphasized that Moscow would continue to develop relations with Tehran in all areas, stating: “We will continue our engagement with Iran across all fields, and the Russian people express their solidarity with the Iranian people, who are defending their interests.”

The Russian president went on to discuss the course of bilateral relations, noting: “Relations between Russia and Iran are steadily developing in all areas. Despite the military and political circumstances, Russia and Iran have maintained the growth trend in trade and economic relations seen over the past year.”

Putin also asked the Iranian president to convey his greetings and respects to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.
