Pars Today- In a message marking Persian Poetry and Literature Day, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian described the Persian language and Iranian poet Shahriar as among the most distinguished figures of contemporary Iranian poetry and a reflection of Iran's living cultural memory, saying Shahriar's poetry has built bridges between the languages, generations and shared memories of this land.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Pezeshkian, in his message marking Persian Poetry and Literature Day, referred to the rich history of Persian poetry and literature and named Ferdowsi, Sanaei, Attar, Nezami, Khayyam, Rumi, Saadi and Hafez as towering figures of this cultural heritage. He described Shahriar as a continuation of this longstanding tradition in the contemporary era.

The Iranian president described the scope of Shahriar's poetry as extending from romantic ghazals, wisdom and spirituality to accounts of people's lives and social developments. He also described Shahriar's solidarity with the Iranian people at various historical junctures, including the Islamic Revolution and the Sacred Defense era, as an expression of the connection between poetry and the fate of society.

Pezeshkian also emphasized the role of Heydar Babaya Salam and Shahriar's other works in connecting language, culture and the collective memory of Iranians. He described Shahriar as a poet who brought Iran and Azerbaijan, as well as the Persian and Azerbaijani languages, together within the framework of a shared historical and cultural identity.

The Iranian president said linguistic and cultural diversity in Iran can be a source of cultural richness and strengthen national bonds. He stressed that the day commemorating Shahriar provides an opportunity to revisit the role of poetry and literature in preserving Iran's historical and cultural identity and strengthening the connection between today's generation and the country's spiritual heritage.
