Pars Today – According to Middle East Eye, "Mahmoud Abbas" has missed the opportunity to act as a competent leader by condemning Hamas and denying his role in fostering national division, all while Gaza faces crisis and Palestinians face expulsion threats.

According to Pars Today, the analytical news platform Middle East Eye wrote: "Mahmoud Abbas," the head of the Palestinian Self-governing Authority, instead of presenting a plan for unity in the face of the Gaza catastrophe, is condemning Hamas and denying his responsibility in the national rift.

Abbas rejected the results of the 2006 elections, which Hamas won under international supervision, contributing to the separation of Gaza from the West Bank. This division split Palestine into three fragmented territories.

A September 2024 poll by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research showed that only 6% of Palestinians would vote for Mahmoud Abbas. Additionally, the boycott of Abbas’s speech by groups such as the Popular Front and the National Initiative highlights the depth of the rift.

Over the past 20 years, Abbas has not presented any plan for national reconciliation.

The Zionist regime, through its expansion of settlement construction, rendered hundreds of Palestinians homeless in 2022 and killed 150 people in the West Bank, advancing its annexation project. Despite this, Abbas, through security coordination with Tel Aviv, has failed to counter settler violence. His demand that Hamas hand over Gaza to the Authority, while the Zionists violate ceasefire agreements, is unrealistic.

Palestinians, facing the threat of expulsion and Zionist crimes, need a unifying leadership. However, by sowing division, Abbas has weakened Palestine in the face of a common enemy.
