Panetta warns against war with Iran: US is heading toward unwinnable war

Pars Today – The former US Defense Secretary, saying that Washington has become involved in an “unwinnable war” with Iran, warned that continuing the conflict could draw the United States into a prolonged and inconclusive war similar to those in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Leon Panetta, former US Defense Secretary, warned on Thursday that the United States has entered an unwinnable war with Iran, arguing that the conflict could turn into another long-term military intervention with no clear path toward an end.

Referring to recent US attacks on Tehran as well as retaliatory strikes, Panetta said: “This situation is an example of how the United States can become trapped in wars that only drain the country’s resources.”

Speaking in an interview with CNN, he added: “I think we have become involved in a war that cannot be won; a war that, like other wars, will continue without reaching a satisfactory outcome.”
