New York Times reveals day Iranian missiles penetrated US air defenses

Pars Today – The New York Times has highlighted the day when the US military used 50 Patriot missiles, each costing $4 million, to repel Iranian attacks, but Iranian missiles managed to penetrate layers of the US air-defense systems in Jordan.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, The New York Times reported on Iran’s missile and drone capabilities and the rapid depletion of US interceptor missile stocks, writing that during recent attacks on US bases in Jordan, Iranian forces managed to penetrate layers of the US air-defense network.

According to the newspaper, over a five-day period, Iran launched heavy attacks against US forces stationed at three bases in Jordan, using successive waves of drones and missiles to put US defense systems under sustained pressure.

The New York Times wrote: “Iran used advanced missiles capable of suddenly changing course mid-flight. Iran’s successive attacks forced US defense systems to expend large numbers of Patriot interceptor missiles.”

The newspaper reported that on the fifth day, an Iranian missile managed to penetrate the defenses and, on July 17, struck a location where US forces were stationed at one of the bases. Three US soldiers were killed and more than 100 others were wounded in the attack. Pentagon officials later said that dozens of additional personnel were wounded in attacks that week and that several aircraft were damaged.

According to The New York Times, the rapid depletion of US defensive stocks, combined with changes in Iran’s tactics, placed increasing pressure on the country’s air-defense capabilities.
