Senior US lawmaker: Enough with failed Republican war of choice in Iran

Pars Today — House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries criticized the treatment of sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, saying they are not being treated “with dignity and respect,” and stressed that it is time to end the Republicans’ failed war against Iran.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, New York Representative Hakeem Jeffries wrote on X Saturday night, referring to the mental health crisis among US service members aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln: “Our patriotic sailors should be treated with dignity and respect. That’s not what is happening on the USS Lincoln.”

Jeffries added: “Enough with the failed Republican war of choice in Iran.”

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy also once again criticized President Donald Trump’s unnecessary war against Iran and his foreign policy, saying the war had been “unwinnable” from the very beginning.

Western media have reported in recent days that the extension of the USS Abraham Lincoln’s deployment has intensified psychological pressure on its sailors and personnel, with some reportedly attempting to jump overboard.

The USS Abraham Lincoln has been at sea continuously for more than 240 days, an unusually long period. Concerns have grown over crew members’ mental exhaustion, lack of rest, and logistical problems, with some lawmakers calling for an investigation into the conditions aboard the carrier.

MSNBC revealed that the carrier’s more than 5,000 crew members had spent only two days ashore—once in Guam in December and once in Oman in July. The deployment was originally scheduled to end in May, but amid the US war against Iran, it has been extended several times.
