Naryshkin: Western aggression against Russia was the main factor behind BRICS expansion

ParsToday – The director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has said that the unprecedented Western aggression against Russia played a fundamental role in the expansion of BRICS.

According to ParsToday, citing IRIB News Agency, Sergey Naryshkin, Director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), remarked: "Since the ideas of neocolonial domination revealed themselves in their most unfavorable light to the world, the unifying potential of BRICS has grown significantly."

He added: "Many countries around the world, observing the futile and desperate attempts to force Russia to abandon its national interests, have not only distanced themselves from the reckless campaign launched from across the ocean, but have also more actively sought alternative, non-Western platforms for international cooperation."

The Director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service emphasized: "Membership in BRICS has become a symbol of belonging to a world where people have the right to determine their own destiny and build their own future, without having to listen to the self-proclaimed masters of the world."

The BRICS member countries include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. The Islamic Republic of Iran became a full member of the group on January 1, 2024.
