Maariv: Israel has not even come close to achieving its objectives in Gaza

The paper urged political officials to realize that Tel Aviv has not even come close to accomplishing its goals and must end the war as soon as possible. Amid growing criticism within Hebrew media circles over the prolonged war of attrition in Gaza and the unprecedented toll on Israeli forces, Maariv’s military correspondent Avi Ashkenazi examined the dire military and political situation facing Israel after 653 days of war. He stressed that Israel is nowhere near victory and the path to success seems more distant than ever.

The Zionist analyst outlined a series of stark facts that reflect the depth of Israel’s quagmire, beginning with staggering statistics on losses and drawing attention to the routine censorship of casualty reports. He revealed that 1,928 Israelis have been killed in the war, including 893 soldiers on the battlefield, while thousands more suffer from physical and psychological trauma.
