Turkmenistan president due in Iran for high-level talks, ties improvement
Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow plans to pay an official two-day visit to Tehran to hold talks with senior Iranian authorities on promotion of relations.
Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, the Turkmen president will arrive in Tehran on Tuesday at the official invitation of his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raeisi.
After a bilateral meeting between the Iranian and Turkmen presidents, the two countries' senior delegations will meet. Tehran and Ashgabat are expected to sign some documents and memoranda of understanding to improve bilateral cooperation.
This is Berdimuhamedow’s first visit to Iran as Turkmenistan’s president. He traveled to Tehran in January as the special envoy of former Turkmenistan’s president, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and held talks with Raeisi.
During the meeting at that time, the Iranian president said Tehran is determined to boost relations with Ashgabat in all areas, especially transportation and energy generation.
He emphasized that Tehran welcomes Turkmenistan's proposals to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, especially in the field of energy, trade and commerce, adding, "There is no obstacle and limitation in this regard."
