  • International student competition: 50 nationalities compete in Imam Khomeini International University's Sports Olympiad

Pars Today - The second cultural-sports Olympiad for international students in Iran, hosted by Imam Khomeini International University in Qazvin province, has kicked off.

The Olympiad began with the participation of students from 50 nationalities from 48 universities across Iran, featuring Iranian traditional sports and the lighting of the Olympiad torch at Imam Khomeini International University. 

According to Pars Today, international students in Iran will compete in 10 sports, including futsal, volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, chess, track and field, swimming, darts, and physical fitness.

Hashem Dadashpour, Deputy Minister of Science, Research, and Technology of Iran, stated at the ceremony: "Iran will become the hub of international universities worldwide."
 
Referring to the first edition of the Olympiad held at Mazandaran University in Iran, Dadashpour added: "The number of international participants in that edition was around 250, but this year, 1,100 students have registered for the second cultural-sports Olympiad, with around 600 of them attending today's competitions, indicating the Olympiad's growth in Iranian universities."

He also said that the International Alumni Festival will be held soon in Shiraz, and the exhibition of educational attractions in Iranian international universities will be held at the Tehran Mosalla with the participation of 100 countries.

During the ceremony, Seyyed Ali Qasemzadeh, President of Imam Khomeini International University, stated: Sports diplomacy leads to the utilization of cultural, political, and social capacities strengthens peace, and stability, and promotes the culture of equality among nations.

It is worth noting that despite sanctions, Iran produces 2% of the world's scientific output, making it the leader among Islamic countries.

In the 2024 Leiden Ranking, which was announced recently, 164 universities from Islamic countries are present, and among them, the Islamic Republic of Iran, with 46 universities in this ranking system, holds the first rank.
