Two people killed, 19 wounded in bomb attacks in eastern Afghanistan
At least two people have been killed and 19 others injured in a number of explosions in Afghanistan’s Eastern Province of Nangarhar.
The deadly incidents occurred in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, on Saturday morning, when three blasts targeted Taliban vehicles traveling along roads in Police District (PD) 6 and PD 4, local public health officials said.
Most of the victims were Taliban members.
Some reports said the explosions were caused by sticky Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
An unnamed Taliban official told AFP that “women and children were among the injured.”
No group claimed immediate responsibility for the bomb attacks.
In recent years, the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, a rival to the Taliban, has established a foothold in eastern and northern Afghanistan, particularly in Nangarhar, which is considered as the heartland of Afghanistan's Daesh.
Separately on Saturday, two civilians were injured in a blast with an unclear target in PD 13 of the capital Kabul, local television channel Tolo News reported.
The government of Afghanistan rapidly collapsed on August 15 and President Ashraf Ghani fled the country in the face of the lightning advances of the Taliban that followed US President Joe Biden’s decision to fully withdraw the American occupation troops in a disastrous pullout.
On September 7, the Taliban announced the formation of a caretaker government.
