Israeli cultural institutions banned in statement of 1000 prominent writers

Pars Today- More than 1000 writers from various countries, in a statement, have been committed to cut cooperation with the cultural institutions of the Zionist regime which are complicit in violation of the Palestinians' rights.

More than one thousand writers announced that cooperation with the cultural institutions of the Zionist regime can lead to execution of policies and methods which result in occupation, Apartheid and genocide by the Israeli regime. According to Pars Today, Sally Rooney, Rachel Kushner and Arundhati Roy are among the outstanding 1000 writers who have announced their commitment in a statement about severing cooperation with the cultural institutions of the Zionist regime which are "complicit in violation of the rights of Palestinians". Sally Rooney, writer of the book, "Normal People" and recently, "Intermezzo", has been supporting the rights of Palestinians for a while and in 2021 refused to sell the Hebrew copy of her novel "Beautiful World, Where Are You?" by an Israeli publisher.

Having received PEN Pinter prize early this year, Rooney made use of the situation and dedicated her speech to the issue of Gaza and said that she will donate her prize to the Palestinian Children Relief Fund.

Part of the statement reads, "The institutions which have never recognized publicly the definite rights of the Palestinian people, clearly mentioned in the international rules, will be boycotted."

The statement also reads that, in the past, innumerable writers had taken similar stances against Apartheid in South Africa because the human conscience does not let us be indifferent towards the modern Apartheid and homelessness, and interact with the Zionist regime institutions.

During the past days, more than 300 Spanish artists and academics, in an open letter to the Spanish Prime Minster, Pedro Sanchez", warned that as long as this European country "keeps its military relations with Israel", they will not be the regime's "accomplice" in mass murdering the innocent people of Gaza.

In October 2023, too, a number of Hollywood stars, in a letter to the American President Joe Biden, had called for ceasefire in Gaza.

These actors and actresses had written in the letter, "We don't want to be accused of silence by the next generations and tell them that we stood and did nothing."

One year after the Gaza war, writers and artists have played an important role in destroying the media hegemony of the West and, consequently, caused the world public opinion to support the people of Gaza and condemn the crimes of the Zionist regime.
