  • BRICS keen on building more just international relations

Pars Today- The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) hosted an international conference, with the participation of specialists, researchers and scholars of political sciences, to address the prospects of economic development in the current circumstances.

According to Pars Today, quoting from BRICS international channel (TV BRICS), this conference put emphasis on the role of BRICS and China as the effective factors in the global trade.

Vladimir Filipov, Chancellor of RUDN, during the session, stressed the need for bolstering regional cooperation within the framework of organizations like BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and said, "We should expand our relations more smartly rather than merely being caught in abstract globalization. These developments have direct impact on financial affairs, economy and production standards, and Russia and RUDN have a special position in this process."

Alexey Maslov, Director of the Institute of the Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University, too, pointing to the change of the paradigm of global economy, said, "Today we are not witness to globalization but we are experiencing globalized regionalization wherein every country is building its own major economic zone. Meanwhile, China plays a pivotal role."

According to Maslov, the current developments in the global trade indicate the change in the logic of international equations so that the big powers are moving towards creation of production chains and independent trade zones."

However, Farhad Ebragimov, Professor of School of Economy of RUDN and political analyst, said in an interview with TV BRICS, "Today, BRICS is not a merely economic institution, but a modern model for international cooperation."

He added that the institutions shaped within the framework of BRICS+ have created alternative channels for cooperation of member states and are contributing to formation of a more just architecture in the international relations.

Ebragimov pointed to the special role of the New Development Bank (NDB) which has provided a "ground for active participation of countries like Iran in the global trade."
