Disney faces sharp subscriber drop following suspension of Trump-critical comedian
Following the suspension of popular American comedian Jimmy Kimmel, Disney experienced a surge in cancellations across its two main streaming platforms, Disney+ and Hulu.
According to recent data from the audience analytics firm Antenna, subscriptions canceled on Disney+ and Hulu exceeded seven million in the period after Kimmel’s suspension. Analysts say this represents a significant spike in subscriber churn rates.
Jimmy Kimmel, the well-known American host and longtime critic of President Donald Trump, was suspended by ABC after accusing conservatives of politicizing the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk and mocking Trump’s reaction to Kirk’s death.
The suspension came following direct pressure from Brendan Carr, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission under the Trump administration, who reportedly advised ABC-affiliated networks to remove Kimmel’s show or risk losing their licenses.
