In the previous program we talked about the bravery of the female defenders of Khorramshahr against the Iraqi Ba'athist army.

In the previous program we talked about the stiff resistance of Iranian youths in defending their homeland with almost empty hands. One of the most brilliant and tragic chapters of this resistance was created by the youths of Khorramshahr, a port in south of Iran near the Iraqi borders.

The 1980s was the decade of major developments in the history of Islamic Iran. In late 1970s, the Islamic Revolution gained victory and in late 1980s the 8-year war imposed by the US through the Ba'athist regime of Saddam ended.

The city of Khorramshahr has been one of the famous port cities of Iran. One of Saddam's primary goals in invading and occupying Khuzestan province was the occupation and capture of Khorramshahr and Abadan.

The Ba'athist regime of the former Iraqi dictator Saddam, after broad consultation with US officials garnered full information on military, political and economic power of Iran after the revolution.

In the history of the bipolar system of the Cold War era, there is no mention of the invasion of Saddam's regime on Iran as it was agreed by the two superpowers of the West and the East. Pahlavi regime was the US puppet in Iran and executive of the White House policies in West Asia.

In the previous program, we talked about the allegations made by Saddam to justify the invasion of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the tearing of the Algiers Accord in front of TV cameras.

Why and how did Saddam regime invade the Islamic Republic of Iran? This question has not a simple answer. The reason given by Saddam for invading the Islamic Republic of Iran’s territory were border disputes. But the real cause for waging of an all-out war against the Islamic Republic of Iran, just 19 months after the victory of the Islamic Revolution is beyond the reasons given by Saddam. In fact, Iraq’s territorial and border disputes with Iran had been an excuse for invasion.

Although nearly three decades have passed since the 8-year holy defense of the Iranian nation against the US-imposed war through its stooge Saddam, many aspects are still untold about the epic, valour and devotion of the Iranian combatants. This series of programs is an effort to show some of these aspects to the new generation. Hope you'll enjoy it.
