Who will run Iranian government now? / What does the Constitution say?

Pars Today - Spokesperson for Iran's Guardian Council said the presidential election will be held within the next 50 days.

According to the Guardian Council's website, Hadi Tahan Nazif, a legal expert and spokesperson for the Guardian Council, in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB)'s channel 2, expressed condolences on the occasion of the martyrdom of Iran's President Ayatollah Raeisi, and his companions. Tahan Nazif in this interview said: "These dear servants received the reward for years of servitude to the noble nation of Iran on the night of Imam Reza's (PBUH) birth anniversary."

Tahan Nazif also emphasized: Their good name, struggles, and services will not be forgotten by the people. This incident is a great tragedy, but as the Leader has said, there will be no disruption in serving the people, and the Constitution of Iran has made provisions for such days.

He referred to Article 131 of the Constitution and said: During this period until the election, the administration of the country will be assigned to the First Vice President with the approval of the Leader, and the powers and responsibilities of the President will be with him.

Tahan Nazif added: A council consisting of the Parliament Speaker, the Head of the Judiciary, and the First Vice President will be formed, and they must take measures to hold the presidential election within 50 days.

The Guardian Council spokesperson also stated: Everything will be pursued in accordance with the law, and according to the Constitution, no gap will be created.

He also responded to the question of how long the next President will be elected for, saying: Based on the Constitution, the presidential term is four years, and the next elected President will be elected for a four-year term.
