Iranian female student shining in international inventions competition
Pars Today – A student from the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Tehran University of Medical Sciences won an international inventions competition with her creation of an artificial intelligence–based system designed to diagnose and relieve infant colic.
Fereshteh Pirani, a master’s student of midwifery at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, won the silver medal at the 5th International Invention and Innovation Competition for IFIA INV Members.
According to Pars Today, quoting Tehran University of Medical Sciences, this international scientific event, which featured more than 1,100 inventions and innovations from 27 countries, was held virtually from 15 to 17 August 2025 and was hosted by Switzerland.
Pirani’s invention is a smart wearable system powered by artificial intelligence designed to detect and alleviate infant colic. Using adaptive soothing mechanisms and advanced non-invasive technologies, the system can accurately identify colic pain and provide tailored relief solutions according to the infant’s condition.
This innovation, situated at the intersection of pediatrics, medical technology, and home healthcare, was developed with the goal of reducing unnecessary doctor visits, lowering treatment costs, and improving the overall quality of life for both infants and their families.
