Irish filmmaker: I've always been fond of Iranians' struggle against colonialism and imperialism
Pars Today- Sean Murray, Irish filmmaker, has recently said in an interview, "Western media have always tried to depict Iran in an impasse. However, I think that since the very beginning, Iran has been very patient towards the events that occur."
Irish filmmaker, Sean Murray, in an interview with Iranian Mehr News Agency, pointing to his acquaintance with Iran via media and Press TV channel, said, "In my recent trip to Tehran, I became familiar with some Iranian media, though I had earlier been acquainted with Iran's media climate through the international network Press TV. I have always been fond of this country's culture and the way it struggles against colonialism and imperialism and the victory of the Islamic Revolution 45 years ago."
Speaking about holding of the second round of the International Media Festival Sobh (Morning) and the presence of the Western media in these festivals, he stated, "Holding of conferences with the presence of independent Western media can be constructive."
Iran's reality is different from what the Western media depict
Saying that the Western media introduce Iran as a third world country, Murray continued, "As a person who has traveled to Iran, I believe that the reality of this country differs from what the Western media depict. What I saw in traveling to Iran was a beautiful and excellent country and this image wasn't strange to me; because I have studied for a long time about the Iranian culture, particularly its ancient culture and the way it has turned into the present day Islamic culture and this issue is attractive for me. This is while, the Western media try to demonstrate countries like Iran as weak and keep their people in ignorance about countries like Iran."
This Irish filmmaker went on to say, "To delete this image and to communicate with the Western public opinion, the best way is to create communicative networks and develop relations with independent media in the Western countries. Today, with the presence and thriving of independent news websites, we have entered a new phase. The developing social and digital media have provided good grounds for creation of relations with countries like Iran."
Murray, stressing the issue that nowadays we are witness to a great deal of injustice in Palestine, added, "Unfortunately, we witness a lot of injustice in Palestine and the Western filmmakers are likeminded with the Iranian media in this regard, and this can set the ground for joint cooperation."
Western media have always tried to depict Iran in bottleneck
Murray continued, "Westerners working in media are years ahead of countries like Iran. Working on a common message between independent media in the West and Iran is very important in the quality and quantity of content production. Western media have always tried to depict Iran in an impasse. However, I think that since the very beginning, Iran has been very patient towards the events that occur."
This Irish filmmaker stressed, "The Israeli crimes and genocide in Gaza, due to the similarities to the British colonialism and what this country had done in Ireland, have been faced with the reaction of the American and British young generation. This issue has created deep hope towards the end of Israel and annihilation of the ideology of Zionism. And I think what Israel has done since October 11 has caused an irreversible course."
The second International Festival "Sobh" will be held on May 19-21, 2024 with Mohsen Yazdi as the secretary. It will be held in three sections: "Mother", "World Service" and "Palestine". Filmmakers, directors and producers of content in the international arena have been invited to participate in this festival.
