The situation in Turkey remains tense this week, as the region waits to witness, perhaps, the last chance for a political solution to the recent flare-up of violence in Syria’s northern province of Idlib.

According to Press TV, on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet for talks in Moscow with the aim to agree on a set of joint measures for Idlib. Speaking Wednesday, Russia’s FM explained their plan for success.

Elsewhere, a visit by the UK’s FS Dominic Raab to Ankara on Tuesday and US diplomats promise to support their NATO ally with further weapons sales, during a visit to the Syrian border, appeared to be an attempt at placating Erdogan, whose rhetoric on Syria has been highly inflammatory following the deaths of over 30 Turkish troops amid recent Syrian Arab Army gains.

The threat of further conflict has not only raised fears in West Asia. Europe, too, is concerned about a new wave of refugees spilling out of the Turkish border. Already, horrific scenes of refugees being attacked in Greece are circulating online, suggesting that the Moscow talks could mean life or death for so many.
