  • Sharp increase in arms sales by US, France & Germany in West Asia

Pars Today - A Swedish research institute has reported a 25% increase in arms exports to West Asia over the past decade.

According to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), which focuses on military conflicts and arms trade analysis, arms sales globally have remained steady over the past decade.

The report highlights a significant growth in arms exports to West Asia due to a noticeable increase in military arms purchases by countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Qatar.

Egypt and Qatar have had a 136% and 361% increase in military arms imports, respectively.

Although global arms sales remained stable between 2011 and 2020, the United States, France, and Germany significantly increased their military arms exports.

In contrast, arms exports from Russia and China decreased during this period.
The names of all three countries - the United States, France, and Germany - are seen among the top five major military arms exporters globally.
According to SIPRI's report, the United States remains the most significant arms exporter globally.

The report also states that the US has increased its share of total global arms exports from 32% to 37% over the past decade.

The military presence and actions of Western countries in West Asia, such as military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, as well as Israeli regime's presence in the region, are considered the most significant factors in arms sales by Western companies in this geographical area.
