Continued US military pressure on Europe: American military boots land in Sweden too
Pars Today - Based on a new defense agreement signed between Stockholm and Washington, the presence of US forces and the possible transfer of US nuclear weapons to Swedish military bases is now unimpeded.
Stockholm, which joined NATO in March, has granted US forces, armored and non-armored vehicles, aircraft, and fighter jets unconditional access to move throughout Sweden. According to Pars Today, citing RT, lawmakers in Stockholm have recently approved a controversial defense agreement with Washington, enabling US forces to operate in 17 Swedish military bases and training camps.
The defense cooperation agreement, signed in December by Pal Jonson and Lloyd Austin, respectively Sweden's and the US's defense ministers, required parliamentary approval, which was granted with 266 votes in favor, 37 against, and 46 abstentions.
Left-wing and green parties have criticized the agreement, emphasizing that it should explicitly state that Sweden will not host US nuclear weapons.
Emma Berginger, a Swedish parliament member from the Green Party, said: "This agreement does not close the door on nuclear weapons." She added: "We want to see a law that prohibits the entry of nuclear weapons into Swedish soil.
