Does US intend to create second Middle East in East Asia?
Pars Today- The American interventionist policies in East Asia have caused concern for some experts.
Some of the Chinese experts, speaking on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) session, explained the US policies in this region and expressed concern over Washington's attempt to forge clashes in the region to turn it into the second Middle East.
According to Pars Today, Chenxiang Miao, Head of the World Navy Research Center at the National Institute of South China Sea Studies, said, "Although the Southeast Asian region is in a peaceful condition, the ASEAN members are concerned that if the US causes clashes in the region, it may turn into the second Middle East."
She added, "As the countries of ASEAN monitor the increasing tensions in the Middle East and the clash between Russia and Ukraine, this session provides an opportunity for discussing the crisis management."
Chen also said, "Interference of foreign parties to resolve the South China Sea disputes will further worsen conditions."
Moreover, one of the senior Chinese officials stressed in an interview with the French news agency that the new Japanese Prime Minister, Shigero Ishiba, will have meetings with the heads of states of the ASEAN members in order to raise the idea of the Asian NATO formation to confront any threat.
ASEAN is a union of 10 states in Southeast Asia which was set up on August 8, 1967 by Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Brunei joined the association later on. Considering notable population and relative stability, the ASEAN member states build up a region rich with resources needed for economic growth and profiteering.
