Let’s Know Islam (95)
Welcome to the 95th weekly episode of the series Let’s Know Islam. The Holy Qur’an is the eternal and unique miracle of the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny), which proved the righteousness of the prophet hood of Prophet Mohammad. Today, we become more familiar with this immortal miracle.
Upon the study of the situation of the world, fourteen centuries ago, we come to realize that the human communities, including the community of Arabian Peninsula were mired in ignorance. In that bleak situation, Prophet Mohammad was divinely appointed to prophet hood. As of the presentation of the divine religion of Islam by the Prophet, he benefitted from the ayahs of Holy Qur’an in every phase of his prophet hood. In an environment, in which people were mired in ignorance, Holy Qur’an glittered like a radiant sun in the darkness, proving the righteousness of the prophecy of Prophet Mohammad.
In the current era, which is the era of civilization and progress, in which many of the facts of creation were revealed, the passage of time and development of human thoughts have not caused any harm against the righteousness of Holy Qur’an. The fact that Holy Qur’an is ever-lasting provides a solid reason for the miraculous nature of Holy Qur’an and depicts the truthfulness and righteousness of the prophecy of Prophet Mohammad.
We have observed on several occasions that a well-known scientist, or a group of thinkers have prepared and published a scientific book, with high precision. At times, the publication of such works is praised by the public. However, with the passage of time and advancement of science, that book gradually loses its value and credibility.
This is not the case in regard to Holy Qur’an. One of the aspects of grandeur of Holy Qur’an is its remaining influential nature, despite the passage of several centuries and the developments that have taken place in mankind’s life. In fact, as the domain of man’s sciences and knowledge has expanded; the grandeur and originality of Qur’anic teachings have been revealed more than ever. Upon the expansion of human knowledge, and emergence of new horizons before mankind, the possibility has risen for further benefit of mankind from Qur’anic teachings, in comparison to previous generations. If Holy Qur’an had spatial and temporal boundaries, it could not influence the generations of mankind, one after the other.
A prophet who has been divinely appointed to guide the entire mankind, and whose religion is set to be ever-lasting, should present a miracle in order to prove his divine prophecy. This miracle should be eternal in nature. Such a prophet cannot rely on miracles which maintain temporary and short-term applications and cannot be perceived and observed by future generations. For instance, we see that the miracles of Moses and Jesus, such as transformation of a cane to a dragon, or revival of the dead are no longer accessible for mankind.
However, Holy Qur’an is always accessible for all generations of mankind, and any human being in any phase in time and any location can observe and study Holy Qur’an. One of the main aspects of the miraculous nature of Holy Qur’an is its eloquence and beauty of its tone. Holy Qur’an was descended on the Prophet of Islam, in an era, in which Arab literature was at its peak. The renowned Arab-speaking poets and speakers composed poems and delivered sermons which were prominent in eloquence.
In such an environment, the ayahs of Holy Qur’an were descended by God Almighty. Holy Qur’an was uniquely eloquent to an extent that it astounded the Arab World. However, the leading polytheists of the Arabian Peninsula who felt that the pillars of their power and authority were shaken upon the advent of divine religion of Islam, made strenuous efforts to obstruct the influence of this Holy Book.
They realized that the style of writing of Holy Qur’an was extraordinary. They never claimed that these ayahs weren’t eloquent. Nonetheless, these polytheists resorted to unconventional approaches to somehow sabotage this holy book. This came while the Prophet of Islam, right from the very beginning, challenged them to create similar remarks to the sentences of Holy Qur’an. These leading polytheists baselessly and blatantly accused the Prophet of Islam of fabrications and sorcery, and threatened him to death, while placing him in an intense economic siege. And when the Prophet migrated to Medina, they plotted several conspiracies against him and waged gory battles against the Prophet of Islam. However, they failed to create a Surah similar to Surahs of Holy Qur’an.
The 88th ayah of Surat Al-Isra in Holy Qur’an notes: Say, ‘Should all humans and jinn rally to bring the like of this Qur’an, they will not bring the like of it, even if they assisted one another.’
Holy Qur’an challenges the disbelievers to create a book, similar to this Holy Book. No human being is capable of creating a book similar to Holy Qur’an.
Another ayah of Holy Qur’an challenges disbelievers to create only ten surahs similar to surahs of Holy Qur’an.
The 13th ayah of Surat Hud in Holy Qur’an notes: Do they say, ‘He has fabricated it?’ Say, ‘Then bring ten surahs like it, fabricated, and invoke whomever you can, besides Allah, should you be truthful.’
Furthermore, the 23rd ayah of Surat al-Baqarah in Holy Qur’an notes: And if you are in doubt concerning what We have sent down to Our servant, then bring a surah like it, and invoke your helpers besides Allah, should you be truthful.
Nonetheless, the polytheists of the Arabian Peninsula failed to create writing similar to ayahs of Holy Qur’an.
This fact once again shows the grandeur and miraculous nature of Holy Qur’an, proving that this holy book has not been created by mankind.
