Let's Know Islam (187)
Welcome to this week's episode of the series Let's Know Islam. Today, we continue to discuss Day of Resurrection, with reference to ayahs of Holy Quran. Belief in the Day of Resurrection is one of the main principles of the teachings of divine prophets, given its highly constructive effects on mankind's life.
Holy Quran puts emphasis on principle of Day of Resurrection with reliance upon solid and logical reasons. Meanwhile, numerous ayahs of Holy Quran have focused on the Day of Resurrection.
In the previous weeks, it was said that Holy Quran has discussed revival of mankind on the Day of Resurrection by presenting a number of examples. For instance, we mentioned the story of Prophet Ezra; the question of Prophet Abraham from God about the terms of revival of mankind; and the adventure of the Companions of the Cave.
A number of other ayahs of Holy Quran point out God's omnipotence in creation of the mankind and universe, considering this fact as a solid prove for God's power to revive mankind on the Day of Resurrection. According to these ayahs, there is no hurdle against God's will and resolve. He created mankind and the universe and maintains the power to revive mankind on the Day of Judgement.
Focusing on the creation of heavens and earth is one of the approaches for proving the revival of mankind. The 33rd ayah of Surat Al-Ahqaf notes: " Do they not see that Allah who created the heavens and the earth and who was not exhausted by their creation, is able to revive the dead? Yes, indeed He has power over all things."
In this ayah, God refers to His omnipotence in creation in order to make mankind contemplate, and notes that the one and only creator of the world, who is capable of creating heavens and earth in such a precise manner and is not exhausted by their creation is certainly capable of reviving the dead.
In this wide world there are a variety of creatures, such as thousands of different insects which have been identified, as well as the largest planets and galaxies; the numbers of which cannot be calculated by mankind. The omnipotent God who has created the entire universe and human beings, is certainly capable of reviving the dead on the Day of Judgement.
In the 27th ayah of Surat al-Rum in Holy Quran, God points out: "It is He who originates the creation, and then He will bring it back – and that is more simple for Him. He is the loftiest description in the heavens and the earth. And He is the All-mighty, the All-wise."
The principle of creation from nothing is more difficult than recreation. For instance, someone who has manufactured a car, a plane, or a complicated industrial equipment is certainly capable of separating different parts of these productions and remaking these products again. This is because remanufacture of these items is much easier than their initial production.
It should be pointed out that the terms of easy and difficult have been presented based on the viewpoint of human beings. These two terms can be used whenever one speaks of limited power. However, when we speak of God's omnipotence, the application of the terms difficult and easy is meaningless. thus, at the end of the said ayah, it is pointed out that God is All-mighty, and All-wise, and that all of God's acts are based on knowledge and prudence.
The 67th ayah of Surat Maryam in Holy Quran addresses those who cast doubts over the revival of mankind on the Day of Resurrection, while referring to the creation of mankind from nothing. This ayah notes: "Does not man remember that We created him before when he was nothing?"
The fact of the matter is that creation of mankind from nothing is more complicated and more difficult that the revival of mankind after death.
A number of other ayahs of Holy Quran refer to revival of plants and dead land in the spring season, while reasoning about the Day of Resurrection. For instance, the 57th ayah of Surat Al-Araf in Holy Quran notes: " It is He who sends forth the winds as harbingers of His mercy. When they bear rain-laden clouds, We drive them toward a dead land and send down water on it, and with it We bring forth all kinds of crops. Thus shall We raise the dead; maybe you will take admonition."
Sun shines on the seas, evaporating water. The steams form heavy masses of clouds. Then the winds carry huge, rain-laden clouds toward dry lands, raining upon these lands, quenching their thirst, and preparing the environment for the revival of seeds. In this manner, the dead land is revived.
Based on this ayah, the revival of the dead land and the regrowth of plants in the spring season is another sign and proof of the Day of Resurrection. The revival of mankind on the Day of Resurrection is an easy task for omnipotent God.
