Reunification Only Solution to Korean Crisis, US Main Obstacle
The danger of fireworks in East Asia is growing at an alarming pace as threats and counter threats are traded by quixotic US president, Donald Trump, and North Korea’s supreme leader, Kim Jong-un, who continues to test-fire ballistic missiles of increasing power as deterrents to prevent any pre-emptive strikes by Washington.
The following is a viewpoint that appeared in this regard in Iran’s English language daily Kayhan International titled: “Reunification Only Solution to Korean Crisis, US Main Obstacle”.
North Korea on Friday carried out another ballistic missile test in defiance of the latest UN Security Council Resolution, a day after it called the UN Security Council “a tool of big and corrupt powers” that ought to be scrapped, and threatened to reduce the US to ashes.
The firing of the latest missile that travelled a distance of 3,700 km – slightly greater than the distance between the Pyongyang and the US air base on Guam Island which North Korea has warned it will destroy in case of Washington’s adventurism in the region – appears provocative, especially since it was shot over Japan, which the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee said in its statement “should be sunken and removed from the region.”
Perhaps, the same word ‘provocative’ could be used for the rest of the statement of the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, which said: “Let’s reduce the US mainland into ashes and darkness. Let’s vent our spite with mobilization of all retaliation means which have been prepared till now.”
But an analysis of the reasons behind the worsening crisis in East Asia tells a different story, in view of the fact that the real culprit to peace in the Asia-Pacific region and tensions among neighbouring countries is the US and its provocations.
In other words, if not for the provocative policies of the US, especially the new person in the White House and his warmongering administrative, the crisis which has its roots in broken American policies, would not have resurfaced.
Kayhan believes that the Korean crisis can be solved by reunification of the Korean Peninsula that was divided after World War 2, and remains divided in spite of the aspirations on both sides of 38th parallel for One Single Korea, because of undue meddling by the US, which has no right to station troops in either South Korea, or for that matter in Japan.
It pointed out that irrespective of the diametrically opposed ideologies governing Pyongyang and Seoul, the two sides have shared history, culture and politics since ancient times, and have preserved Korean nationalism despite being subjected to frequent threats by the big powers in the past such as China and Japan.
As a matter of fact, resentment against Japan runs deep in both North and South Korea as the people on both sides of the border haven’t forgotten that in 1910 after decades of military interference the Korean Peninsula was annexed by Imperial Japan, whose forces subjected the Korean people to untold miseries and held them in thralldom, reducing many of their women to sex-slaves for satisfying the carnal desires of the occupation forces.
This ought to explain the deep hatred of Japan still lingering in the minds of the people of the unnaturally divided Korean Peninsula. Everything Japanese is hated by Koreans, whether southerners or northerners, and this is the reason Kim Jong-un repeatedly makes Japan the butt of his fiery speeches and test-fires missiles roaring high over across Japanese skies to land in the international waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Although China and Russia also gave their vote to the latest UN Security Council Resolution against Pyongyang, the two giants which share borders with North Korea oppose any US adventurism in the region and think that the crisis could be resolved peacefully.
In view of these facts, said Kayhan International, the UN, which claims to be a body representing all world countries should stop being a tool of the US, and instead of imposing sanctions on North Korea, should analyze the roots of the crisis, including Washington’s broken promises to Pyongyang for building peaceful nuclear installations. It said, the one which should be castigated by the UN should be the regime in the White House, whose satanic intentions are the real threat to world peace as is evident by the breach of the nuclear agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran and unwarranted threats against Tehran that could dangerously backfire.
Peace in the pacific is beneficial to all including Japan, which should ask the US to withdraw its 54,000 occupation troops from its soil and should work with other regional countries to bury the hatchet and build a bright future.
It should be noted that the two Koreas have long agreed to work peacefully for reunification and once Seoul summons up the courage to kick out the US, the emergence of One Single Korea is in the interests of not just the region but the whole world.
Meanwhile, said the daily even if Pyongyang’s fiery statement to “reduce the US mainland to ashes and darkness” is not taken seriously, the Great Satan should know that it is not immune from Divine Wrath, which no technology, weaponry or political machinations can avert.
