Iravani: UNSC must recognize US & Israel as aggressors against Iran
Pars Today – Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations has called on the UN secretary-general and Security Council's president to unequivocally condemn the use of force and acts of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to identify Israel and the United States as the initiators of such aggression.
Amir Saeed Iravani, in a letter sent Monday local time to the UN secretary-general and the president of the Security Council, issued a legal and firm response to the US letter invoking Article 51 of the UN Charter to justify its acts of aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities. He reiterated Iran’s demand for a clear and decisive condemnation of the illegal use of force and aggressive acts against Iran’s sovereign territory and safeguarded nuclear facilities by the US and Israel.
Iravani emphasized that such actions constitute a flagrant violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, international law, UN Security Council Resolutions 2231 (2015) and 487 (1981), the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and related resolutions of the IAEA General Conference.
The Iranian envoy also urged the UN secretary-general and the Security Council's president to officially recognize Israel and the United States as aggressors, to adopt effective measures under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to ensure full accountability — including payment of full reparations for damages — and to guarantee that such illegal acts of aggression are not repeated in the future.
