Russia: SCO reaffirms Iran's legitimate nuclear rights

Pars Today – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday that member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the Islamic Republic of Iran’s legitimate right to use peaceful nuclear energy.

Speaking at a press conference following the SCO Foreign Ministers' Council Meeting, Lavrov responded to a question about his meeting with his Iranian counterpart, saying they discussed peaceful solutions to the Iranian nuclear issue.

Lavrov added, “We spoke about realistic approaches to reaching a resolution through peaceful political and diplomatic tools, respecting the long-standing decisions made in Tehran not to pursue nuclear weapons.”

He emphasized that no one—including IAEA inspectors—has provided any evidence contradicting Iran’s declared peaceful intentions regarding its nuclear program.

The 25th two-day meeting of SCO foreign ministers began on Tuesday in the port city of Tianjin, China.
