US election result will not affect Iran’s fundamental policies: Deputy FM

A senior Iranian diplomat says the result of the US presidential election will have no bearing on the fundamental policies of the Islamic Republic.

“Iran’s fundamental policies, which are based on countering domination and resisting illegal pressure, will definitely not be affected by the US election [results],” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi said in a radio interview on Saturday.

According to Press TV, he, however, emphasized that if new conditions emerge, Iran “will adopt proper methods and solutions in conformity with those conditions in order to serve its own interests and to counter any possible new pressure or threat.”

He said there would be no shift in the US hegemonic and bullying policies with the possible change of the country’s president but added that new approaches may be developed in Washington’s policies if a new team comes to power.

In response to a question about the possibility of the new US president’s return to the multilateral 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Araqchi said, “It is still too early to talk about this.”

“There exist numerous challenges but, in the first place, one should wait to see new possible policies in the US,” the senior Iranian diplomat added.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that Iran will not be concerned about who emerges the winner of the US race for presidency and that the Islamic Republic’s stance towards the US hegemony will remain unaltered whatever the result of the election.

The Leader said, “Some may think that a government can benefit from submitting to the demands of the United States, but the governments that surrendered to American bullying have suffered the most and their troubles have only multiplied.”

“Iran’s policy towards the US is calculated and clear and does not change with the movement of individuals,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated.
