President Rouhani expresses confidence about enhanced Iran-Qatar ties

President Hassan Rouhani says Iran and Qatar have always had “friendly and close” relations, expressing confidence that the two countries will further improve ties to serve common interests.

In a message to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Saturday, the Iranian president extended his congratulations to him over Qatar National Day.

“I am confident that in the light of the will of the two countries’ senior officials, the cordial relationship will be expanded and continue in the future to serve the interests of the two nations,” Rouhani said.

He expressed hope that Tehran and Doha would make use of their vast potentiality and capabilities to further improve cooperation in all areas.

The Iranian chief executive wished success and health for the Qatari emir and prosperity for the country’s nation.

Qatar National Day is a national commemoration of the country’s unification in 1878. It is celebrated annually on December 18 and is known as Founder's Day.

The Qatari emir paid a key visit to Tehran in January and held talks with senior Iranian officials on ways of enhancing bilateral relations, latest developments in the region, and regional and international issues of mutual concern.
