Mearsheimer: U.S. has no choice but to accept Iran’s demands

Pars Today – American international relations scholar John Mearsheimer said that the only way to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is for the United States to accept Iran’s demands.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Mearsheimer, a professor of political science at the University of Chicago, said: “It is difficult to see how the United States could achieve even a limited victory in a conflict with Iran. If Washington hopes to reopen the strait and prevent an economic catastrophe, it has little choice but to accept almost all of Iran’s demands.”

The professor noted that at the beginning of the war against Iran, the United States had four main objectives: regime change, ending Iran’s enrichment capabilities, destroying its missile capabilities, and halting Iran’s support for resistance groups. He said Washington has achieved none of these objectives and has no realistic chance of accomplishing them.

Mearsheimer stressed: “The United States has no military option, and escalation would be disastrous for the Americans. The Iranians, by contrast, believe they have a military option and can change the balance of power.”
