  • Iran voices sympathy with India after Himalayan glacier bursts

The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry expressed sympathy with India over casualties in devastating flash floods after a chunk of Himalayan glacier broke off in the country’s north.

According to Tasnim news agency, in a statement on Sunday night, Sa'eed Khatibzadeh sympathized with the government and people of India, particularly the families of flood victims.

Fourteen people are confirmed dead and at least 170 others missing after a part of a Himalayan glacier broke away in India, setting off a torrent of water, rock and dust down a mountain valley, officials said.

Sunday’s violent surge swept away a small hydroelectric project called Rishiganga and damaged a bigger one further downstream. Most of the missing were people working on the two projects.
