Iran, Latvia call for enhanced relations

Iran and Latvia have emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral relations in various spheres, particularly in the field of economy.

According to Press TV, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who arrived in the Latvian capital city of Riga on Thursday on the last leg of his European tour, held a meeting with Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis.

Zarif said Tehran and Riga have the potentialities to expand economic and trade ties, saying easing banking relations between the two countries is of prime importance.

The FM also assessed as positive political ties between Iran and Latvia, calling for continued consultations between the two countries.

The Latvian president, for his part, expressed hope that Zarif’s visit would pave the way for the expansion of mutual ties in all sectors, particularly in the political, parliamentary, trade and tourism areas.

Zarif and Vejonis also exchanged views on the latest regional developments as well as the crises in West Asia.
